We tend to think that in a virtually connected world, any differences between countries and cultures would gradually disappear. Real life proves that they don’t.

Implicit communication (Collectivistic) - Explicit communication (Individualistic)
In collectivist countries, any interaction serves the building and strengthening of the relationship. Therefore, communication is more implicit and careful, statements that could be considered confrontational are avoided – and a ‘no’ answer can be considered rude and confrontational. Russia is more hierarchical and more collectivist than the Netherlands, so communication is more polite and implicit while the Dutch are known for speaking their mind which might come across as rude at times.
